What is Ptosis Correction?

"Ptosis, also known as blepharoptosis, refers to a condition in which the upper eyelid droops and can affect vision or cause an asymmetrical and sleepy looking eyes. People with ptosis often have difficulty fully opening their eyes due to weakness in the muscle that lifts the eyelids. Some people have naturally droopy eyelids, while others develop ptosis due to aging. Additionally, droopy eyelids may cause forehead wrinkles and headaches, as forehead muscles and eyebrows are constantly being used to open the eyes. Ptosis correction can help you correct sleepy eyelids by strengthening the eye-opening muscle.

TIP 1. If you have droopy or asymmetric eyes, undergoing double eyelid surgery alone may not achieve the desired look, and may even result in smaller, unnatural-looking eyelids. It is essential to undergo ptosis correction along with double eyelid surgery to achieve aesthetic and natural-looking eyelids. Similarly, undergoing ptosis correction alone may not create defined double eyelids. Therefore, it is highly recommended to implement double eyelid surgery along with ptosis correction if you have sleepy and droopy eyes.

Ptosis Correction is recommended if:

  • You want your eyes to look more vivid and refreshed

  • You have sleepy looking, droopy  eyes

  • You have asymmetric eyes

  • You experience forehead wrinkles and headaches due to the effort of forcing your muscles to open your eyes.

There are two types of ptosis correction: non-incisional and incisional.

NON-INCISIONAL PTOSIS CORRECTION

Non-incisional ptosis correction is a procedure that corrects sleepy eyes by adjusting the eyelid muscle without making any incisions. Unlike traditional incisional ptosis correction, non-incisional ptosis correction does not cause scarring, as a thread is inserted into the eyelid of the levator muscle to create a double fold. The recovery period is also very short, as minor bruising and swelling subsides quickly.  However, non-incisional ptosis correction only works for people with mild to moderate ptosis.

INCISIONAL PTOSIS CORRECTION

Incisional ptosis correction can eliminate excess skin, fat, and muscle while also strengthening the muscle responsible for opening the eye. This method involves tightening and shortening the eye-opening muscle and can effectively treat severe cases of ptosis with a lower recurrence rate than the non-incisional method. However, this procedure requires precise and delicate techniques as the manipulation of the eye-opening muscle occurs inside the eyelids.
