What is genioplasty?

If you are concerned with a receding or protruding chin, or chin misalignments genioplasty is an option.

Short chins can be improved by moving the jaw itself forward, or alternatively, implants can be used to give more projection to the chin. Conversely, the jaw itself can be moved backward or the bone can be removed by osteotomy to decrease an overly projecting chin.

Genioplasty is recommended if:

  • You have a small or receding chin

  • You have a protruding chin

  • You have a wide chin

  • You have a long or short chin

Genioplasty Method

Sliding Genioplasty for Small Chins

Sliding Genioplasty corrects the small chin by cutting the lower jawbone, then moving it forward and fixing it into the proper position. The incision is made intra-orally so there are no visible scars.

Chin Implant

There are diverse types of implants for chin surgery and they are selected depending on each patient’s bone shape. Implant chin surgery is a relatively easy procedure where small incisions are made to insert an implant and can be completed within 30 minutes.

Osteotomy for Long Chin Reduction

The chin bone is cut into a T-shape to reduce a long chin. Then the middle bone is removed and the end bones are put together and fixed. The protruding square jawline is cut to create a slender jaw and chin.
